No growing pains
At different stages of your lawn's life it requires different nutrients to maintain health and vigour. Canturf's understanding of this has allowed us to develop two fertilisers, Lawn Starter, for newly seeded areas up to 12 weeks old, and our Grow Green which is perfect for instant turf areas or your mature lawn.
Both Canturf Lawn Starter and Canturf Grow Green are made from only the best ingredients and are based on organic material. We also use sulphate of potash in our blends as opposed to the more commonly used muriate of potash. Although this is a more a costly ingredient it reduces the build up of salinity in the soil, performs more effectively and is more environmentally friendly.
A good quality Lawn Starter fertiliser is essential for good seed germination and turf establishment. The germinating seed requires a lot of nutrients to survive and grow. Canturf's Lawn Starter is based on a product called Nutri Smart which increases soil microbial activity that in turn promotes strong healthy root establishment and the utilisation of any nutrients already present or actually locked up in the soil. In addition Canturf Seed Starter also provides the essential trace elements and high levels of phosphorous required for seed establishment and rapid root growth.
Lawn Starter now comes in a convenient 7Kg bucket which covers 140m square.
Grow Green is based on an organic product called Mother Earth and othe BFA approved organic material making it environmentally friendly.
Regular application of a quality fertiliser is essential for a vigorous and healthy home lawn, fertiliser will assist with lush colour, continued root development and ongoing maintenance of your lawn. Fertilising with Canturf Grow Green will also ensure your lawn will be more able to combat weed infestation, scarab attack and fungus. Grow Green has been formulated especially to provide a healthy balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and essential trace elements. Being a rich mixture of elements such as urea, sulphate of potash, sulphur, calcium, magnesium, iron and boron Grow Green has a N:P:K ratio of N10.9: P1.7: K8.9
Once a lawn is established it has little need for phosphorous, the main reason for the appearance of Blue Green Algae in the Murrumbidgee River. For this reason Grow Green has a deliberately low level of phosphorous.
For continued lawn maintenance the secret of good fertilising is to apply lightly but frequently or "less more often", to ensure a balance of nutrients and trace elements in the soil. For a healthy lawn apply Grow Green at a rate of 35 grams per square meter three times during each growing season as indicated under on going maintenance.
Grow Green now comes in a 3Kg bucket which covers 85m square, a 7Kg bucket which covers 200m square and 25Kg bags which covers 715m square.
Our seed range has been developed especially for the harsh climate of Canberra and the Southern Highlands. With temperatures ranging from minus 10 to 40 degrees blends of different grass species are used to create mixes that will look beautiful all year round. For best results we recommend you always sow Canturf Lawn Seed in conjunction with our Lawn Starter premium fertiliser.
75% Tall Fine Fescue, 25% Kentucky Bluegrass
Hardy Green is similar to Rough & Tumble but without the O'Connor's Strawberry Clover in the mix. This lawn is well suited to those areas where appearance is important but still requires a drought resistant, hardwearing lawn. The Kentucky Bluegrass provides good colour as well as an ability to repair damaged areas by self propagating. This blend is the same as our Canberra Blend turf mix.
71% Tall Fine Fescue, 24% Kentucky Bluegrass, 5% O'Connor's Strawberry Clover
Rough & Tumble Alturf mix is the most popular mix for the Canberra and surrounding areas. Rough and Tumble is a hard wearing, drought and scarab resistant mix, well suited to back yards, ovals, playgrounds and commercial areas. The O'Connor's Strawberry Clover discourages scarab grubs and provides a natural source of nitrogen for the other grasses. Tall Fescue is slightly courser than the other cool season grasses but is the most drought tolerant. This blend is the same as our Canberra Blend with clover blend of turf.
80% Fine Rye-Grass, 20% Kentucky Bluegrass
Prestige Green is a fine textured lawn and may require a higher level of maintenance than Rough and Tumble or Hardy Green. It is ideally suited to a prestigious front lawn if given regular water and fertiliser. Prestige Green's high quality has been instrumented in being used many Golf Courses including Royal Canberra and Moss Vale. This seed mix is the same as our Penturf blend of turf.
80% Kentucky Bluegrass, 20% Chewings Fescue
Designed for those hard to grow areas, Sunshade Canberra Mix produces an older style fine lawn and is recommended for the shadier parts of the garden or for oversowing an existing lawn struggling under trees.
Aside from our standard seed and fertiliser range listed above Canturf is also able to source and supply most grass and green manure crop seed and specialty fertilisers through our sister company Clean Seeds.
