Less water! Less hassle! The drought resistant lawn for Canberra.

Santa Ana couch is the best choice for an extremely hard-wearing, drought tolerant, fine textured turf.  What truly sets Santa Ana apart is its love of our hot summers. It flourishes in hot, dry conditions that would typically challenge many other grass types.

Santa Ana Couch has a bright green colour and loves to be mown short, giving a perfect 'bowling green' aesthetic. Like all other warm season grasses in the Canberra area Santa Ana Couch will go dormant during the frosty winter months, during which the turf will discolour. The amount of discoloration will depend on the severity of the winter. However, during those cold months little to no water or maintenance is required.

Santa Ana Couch will fix itself!

Santa Ana Couch is not only extremely hard wearing and drought resilient it also can take a beating from  pet traffic. This lawn will handle anything an active outdoor lifestyle can throw at it. Santa Ana couch is known for its ability to regenerate quickly, bouncing back from adverse conditions with ease. It is a medium vigour creeping perennial with above ground runners that can be easily contained in a given area by bordering.

Not only our most suitable turf for high wear, full sun areas. Santa Ana Couch also is resistant to weeds as it creates thatch readily and out competes many common lawn weeds.

Tried and tested! The best warm season turf for our harsh climate.

All warm season grasses go dormant in our harsh Canberra frosts but we believe Santa Ana Couch is the best of the bunch. When we were deciding which couch type to grow at our Fyshwick farm we tested a range of popular lawn couch varieties. The winner in 2013 was what we have continued to grow since, our much-loved Santa Ana couch. We found that the Santa Ana variety was the best at self-repairing and colour retention in our climate.

We previously grew buffalo grass and found it went into dormancy earlier and came out later then couch. We also found it came out weaker after the winter months and took longer to establish itself. Whilst it still makes a fantastic turf we ultimately decided it was not as suitable for our region.
